Lawmakers in Saint Petersburg could pass a bill tomorrow that will crush freedom of expression for Russians and make LGBT people invisible. But leaders around the world can help stop it.
Call your foreign affairs office, and tell your country's official to speak out:
Ministro de Estado e dos Negócios Estrangeiros
Phone: +351 213 946 000
It’s very easy to make the call. Here’s a sample script you can use:
”Hello, my name is _________ and I'm calling in regards to the anti-gay law that is about to be voted on tomorrow in St Petersburg, Russia. May I speak with the person handling this issue?”
Once you get someone on the line (or if you are directed to a voicemail):
”Tomorrow, the city of Saint Petersburg could pass a law that would make it illegal to speak publicly about being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. It would make millions of people invisible with the stroke of a pen.
What is your position on this issue? Will you use the diplomatic means in your power to help stop this law?”
